Abu Dhabi 2019 reflects UAE’s efforts to empower, integrating people of determination

ABU DHABI, The UAE is keen to integrate people of determination in the community, by engaging them in various cultural and sporting events, to improve their quality of life and enable them to benefit from their energy and creativity.

The hosting of the Special Olympics World Games, Abu Dhabi 2019, which will be held from 14th to 21st March, embodies the country’s vision, and its efforts to provide opportunities to integrate people of determination in community activities. It also highlights the leadership’s keenness to provide them with fair opportunities and achieve their aspirations.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Wajib Volunteer Association, praised the leadership for encouraging sports and athletes, as well as community solidarity, to support the success of Abu Dhabi 2019, the largest humanitarian event in the world to be hosted by Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Khalifa accompanied several participants of Abu Dhabi 2019 and their families, along with several members of the association, on a cruise around the Abu Dhabi Corniche, which began in Kaser Al Amwaj, to motivate them to do more and alleviate their pre-competition nerves.

Sheikh Khalifa said that hosting Abu Dhabi 2019 reflects the UAE’s vision, as well as its efforts to integrate people of determination into the community. He also pointed out that the “Host Cities Programme” provides opportunities for Emirati residents to highlight the traditional values and noble principles established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Khalifa praised the spirit of the participants and called on them to be positive while expressing his full confidence in the ability of the members of the UAE Team to highlight the positive achievements of the country, especially in the sporting arena.

The programme included an entertainment section presented by Hussein Al Ameri and a musical section presented by the artist, Ariam, who recited poems and sang national songs, with the participation of people of determination from the UAE Team.

The Special Olympics World Games 2019 will be hosted in Abu Dhabi, in March 2019 for the first time in the Middle East North Africa since the movement’s founding over 50 years ago. The Crown Prince Court led the winning bid efforts with a mission to promote positive social change for people with intellectual disabilities and create a more inclusive society.

Special Olympics is the world’s largest humanitarian sporting event and a global movement which focuses on the empowerment of people of determination with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport.
