Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, Al Owais Cultural Foundation to advance Arab research and academia

ABU DHABI, 2nd June, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), a division of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation. This agreement aims to enhance collaboration between the two entities by exchanging knowledge and developing solutions to address contemporary challenges and issues in Arab research and academia. The MoU was signed by Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Executive Director of the ALC, and Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation. This landmark agreement facilitates close cooperation in implementing joint strategic projects and organising enriching events that delve into intellectual, scientific, and cultural realms. Commenting on the collaboration, Al Tunaiji expressed, “The ALC is fully committed to crafting innovative programmes and initiatives while forging strong partnerships to enhance cooperation and collectively tackle the challenges faced by the Arabic language. We strive to devise optimal solutions that position the Arabic language at the forefront of cultural, intellectual, and creative domains.” This partnership, he said, opens up new avenues to support Arab knowledge and intellectual production, laying the groundwork to inspire Arab creators and thinkers across all disciplines. Al Hashemi, in turn, stated, “We take pride in the role played by national cultural institutions in asserting the UAE’s cultural presence both locally and internationally, showcasing a positive image of a cultural landscape that embraces diversity, tolerance, and civilization. At the Foundation, we are dedicated to deepening intellectual discourse and advancing the vocabulary, aesthetics, and originality of culture. We have committed to align ourselves with cultural institutions that share our interests, enabling us to unite our vision and objectives.” The agreement outlines several key areas of collaboration. The ALC and Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation will coordinate their efforts to host various events and activities focusing on Arab culture and other pertinent subjects. They will also engage in the exchange of databases featuring Arab and international cultural figures. Furthermore, the entities will establish a comprehensive action plan encompassing workshops, seminars, advisory services, joint research studies, and reports on topics of mutual interest. The MoU also establishes a joint committee responsible for overseeing and implementing these programmes.
