BAGHDAD, Vice President Nuri al-Maliki stressed the importance of bypassing political sectarianism and quotas and the formation of a national political majority produces a strong and coherent government.

A statement issued by the Information Office of the Vice President of the Republic said that “Maliki received in his office today, the Ambassadors of the United Kingdom in Iraq, Jonathan Paul Wilkes and in Tehran Nicholas Havton, during the meeting they discussed the latest political situation, security and economic in Iraq and the region, and the future of relations between the two countries.

“The Iraqi people are determined to carry out reform and strengthen the foundations of democracy, especially as it is preparing to run in the legislative elections early next month,” Maliki said, adding that the next phase will be a phase of reconstruction and services and overcome the problems that resulted from quotas and led to the obstruction of many service projects of interest to the citizen.

The Vice President emphasized the need to overcome political sectarianism and quotas and form a national political majority that produces a strong and cohesive government with an open economic vision capable of creating a safe investment environment that attracts capital and major investment companies, particularly British companies.

On their part, the British Ambassadors expressed their country’s readiness to support Iraq and restore its economic capacity and its regional and international position.
