Custom raid smugglers’ hideouts in Lagos, Ogun

Customs operatives from the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ Ikeja at the weekend raided various smugglers’ hideouts in Lagos and Ogun States.

About 5,020 cartons of frozen poultry products and 2,016 cartons of bottled water worth N30.118 million were seized.

One person was arrested during the raid at one of the hideouts while the others fled into the bush after engaging the Custom operatives in a shootout.

The Customs Area Controller, FOU Zone A, Amade Abdul, said through the zonal Public Relations Officer, Uche Ejesieme, that the seizure and arrest were a major boost.

Custom officials from the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘C’, Owerri, Imo State have also impounded a truckload of fake analgesic tablets worth about N164 million.

Items seized included 696 cartons of fake Lubumol and 153 cartons of fake Tramodol with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N163.2m.
