DM penalises violating consultant and contractor

DUBAI: Marwan Al Mohamed, Acting Director of Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality, has said that the municipality has completed the investigation into the collapse of the roof of a swimming pool under construction in Al Shabab Al Arabi Club in Al Mamzar during the concrete pouring procedure. “The technical committee of the department found that the accident, which injured four workers, was due to the violation of work rules by the project consultant as they had subcontracted the work to an unauthorised contractor to work in Dubai,” Mohamed said.

“The subcontractor lacked efficiency in the construction field and committed serious technical mistakes during the concrete pouring works. As per Local Order No 03 of 1999, both consultant and main contractor will be responsible for the faults and violations in the project execution,” he said. “The civic body hereby urges all consulting and contracting companies not to subcontract with any unauthorised companies that are not registered with Dubai Municipality,” he continued.

“The municipality will apply all penalties stipulated by the law on violators in order to protect public life, health and property,” he added.
