Dubai Customs receives IDC Insights IT Excellence Award 2014

DUBAI: Dubai Customs has received the IDC Insights IT Excellence Award 2014 for the best IT project in terms of cost efficiency.

The award was presented by International Data Corporation (IDC), the premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets.

IDC Insights IT Excellence Awards highlight excellence in innovation, IT governance, change management, business enablement and IT cost efficiency as the areas of distinction upon which nominees are evaluated. High performing CIOs in the private and public sectors are honored.

Dubai Customs has earned this prestigious award for its “Risk Engine” system. This project has been developed internally for the purpose of protecting the community from prohibited and counterfeit substances, preventing the abuse of public resources, and strengthening risk management while ensuring a streamlined boarder workflow.

Younis Mohammed Othman, Director of Information Technology Department, received the award on behalf of Dubai Customs, during “IDC Insights IT Excellence Awards” ceremony, which was held recently under the patronage of Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, as part of the annual Middle East IT managers summit held this year at Burj Al Arab hotel.

Mr. Othman said “The Risk Engine has enhanced the image of Dubai Customs both regionally and internationally, as a leading customs administration supporting legitimate trade. The system has helped dramatically streamline and expedite clearance procedures.” He further noted that the Risk Engine is a smart system which is constantly fed with information from both internal and external entities. “The Customs Intelligence Department at DC collects, links and analyses this information to find out the risks entered into the system which efficiently turns down any risky transactions.” A number of public and private sector organizations participated with their flagship projects for a chance to win one of IDC Insights IT Excellence Awards. Before shortlisting the final three nominees for each category, personal interviews were conducted with the participants who were assessed by a panel of experts from the Gulf Technical Advisory Board that comprises some of the most influential IT leaders in the region.

As the world’s leading market research provider, IDC helps IT professionals, business executives, and the investment community make fact-based decisions on technology purchases and business strategy.
