Egypt a leader of culture: Al Gergawi

CAIRO, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future and Secretary-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, expressed his pride at the significant Egyptian participation in the 3rd Arab Reading Challenge, which involved 28 percent of Egyptian school students, while stressing that Egypt is a leader of culture and its students represent over 50 percent of the challenge’s participants, as part of 44 countries.

“The directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to support the challenge on Arab and international levels as a permanent development project,” Al Gergawi said.

He added that participating in the challenge reflects the key objectives of its strategy to achieve greater participation among students from Arab and other countries.

He made this statement during his meeting with Dr. Tarek Shawki, Minister of Education of Egypt, at the end of the Arab Reading Challenge Finals in Egypt.

Al Gergawi further added that the participation of almost a third of Egyptian school students will create an Arab knowledge movement and promote the culture of openness and tolerance in the Arab world while noting that Egypt is a beacon of literature, culture, art, beauty and knowledge.

Dr. Shawki thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid for his patronage of the challenge, which aims to highlight the importance of education and enjoying learning, to encourage students to master to learn their subjects and enable them to acquire new skills.
