Guinean President visits Sheikh Zayed Mosque

ABU DHABI: Guinean President Alpha Conde on Tuesday hailed the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi as one of the most important examples of contemporary Islamic architecture in the UAE.

The unique iconic edifice, he noted, deserves to have a unique place in the hearts of Emiratis as it is named after the founding father of the nation the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Conde made his remarks during a tour to the iconic edifice accompanied by the director of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre Yousef Al-Obaidli.

Conde also visited the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan which is located near the mosque.

The mosque which is large enough to accommodate over 40,000 worshipers opened its doors to the public in 2007. In 2008, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre was established as an affiliate of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, to manage the day to day operations, not only as a place of worship and Friday gathering, but has been a place of learning and discovery through its education and visitor programs.
