Hazza bin Zayed stresses importance of tolerance in the UAE

ABU DHABI, H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, stressed the importance of tolerance in the UAE as a virtue that embodies the strong Emirati heritage under the foundations set by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The wise leadership of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, have also strengthened the importance of the principles of tolerance in the country, he added.

The statement came during a meeting on Sunday at his office in Abu Dhabi to discuss a National Programme for Tolerance with Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance.

She stated that continuing to promote the values of tolerance, love, co-existence and unity, as well as achieving goodness and happiness for all peoples of the world and for future generations, will be the main goal of the programme. The seven foundations for the National Programme for Tolerance are Islam, the Emirati Constitution, the Zayed Heritage, Emirati morals, International law, history and human nature and common values, she added.

“Strengthening the government’s role as a model for tolerance, strengthening of the role of a tightly-knit family unit to build tolerant communities, protecting young people from bigotry and extremism, the enrichment of the science and culture, and contributing to international efforts by highlighting our role as a tolerant country” are the five main pillars of the programme, according to the Minister of State for Tolerance.

She also announced the creation of future initiatives, such as an International Institute of Tolerance, the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Tolerance and planned meetings with diplomatic delegations. A celebration of International Day for Tolerance on 16th November, the launch of the Community of Volunteers for Tolerance and the Voice of Tolerance Initiative, the Teacher’s Covenant for Tolerance and the Imams’ Covenant for Tolerance, are also part of the National Programme for Tolerance.

The meeting was also attended by Rashid Ahmed Al Tunaiji, Member of the National Programme for Tolerance.
