Iran, Azerbaijan FMs urge respecting mutual good neighborliness

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhoun Bayramov have stressed the importance of mutual respect of good neighborliness and the sovereignty of the two countries.

During a telephone call, Abdollahian and Bayramov discussed in frank talks the standing issues, misunderstandings and solutions to those problems, Iran’s foreign ministry said on its website Saturday.

The Iranian minister referred to the “plot of the Zionist identity” against the unity, security and progress of the region’s countries, it added, indicating that only enemies benefit from disputes among the region’s countries.

On Thursday, Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry announced the expulsion of four Iranian diplomats and asked them to leave the country within 28 hours.

This came amid tensions between the two sides, as Iran accused Azerbaijan of launching abusive media against it. In return, Azerbaijan criticized Iran for carrying out maneuvers near its borders.
