IRAQI CABINET PREPARED FOR KICRI – STATEMENT

Iraqi Cabinet announced late Thursday completing all preparations to take part in the Kuwait International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI), to launch February 12.

The Iraqi delegation to the Conference will host a number of senior officials from Baghdad and Kurdistan, noted a statement by the Cabinet’s General Secretariat, adding that the delegation’s agenda mainly consists of three items; reconstruction, investment and supporting stability and peaceful coexistence.

The first day of KICRI will see a display of damage and needs of the affected areas in Iraq, as well as supporting social reconciliation, while the second day will examine setting up a sound investment environment through 212 potential opportunities, it said.

The final day, to be sponsored by the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, will see the declaration of support by participating parties to Iraq, it pointed out.

The Cabinet statement voiced utmost appreciation to the State of Kuwait and His Highness the Amir for such initiative.

KICRI is to be co-chaired by Kuwait, Iraq, the UN, the EU and the World Bank and is due to take place from February 12 to 14, with the participation of a number of contributing countries, international and regional organizations, with an estimate figure of 3,000 participants in total.

Meanwhile, In Irbil last night, US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman discussed KICRI with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, with hopes high that the autonomous region would benefit from the Conference, said a Kurdistan Region government statement.
