Israeli Attacks Against Journalists in Palestinian Territories Increase in May

The frequency of Israeli attacks and violations against journalists in the Palestinian territories increased, during the month of May, to exceed 37 violations, in an attempt to discourage them from their professional duty and prevent them from reporting the reality from the field and blurring the facts.

In its monthly report, Palestinian Journalist Support Committee said that there has been more than 37 Israeli violations against journalists working in the field or behind the bars of the occupation prisons during May, adding that 9 journalists were injured, whether by the Israeli army or settlers, while they were covering violations against Palestinians in the West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem.

The report indicated that the occupation used rubber bullets and poison gas bombs to prevent journalists from covering and attending the field, while settlers physically attacked them and threw stones and glass at them, adding that the committee documented the arrest, detention and summoning of three journalists by the Israeli occupation forces.

With the participation of settlers, the Israeli occupation forces prevented more than 15 cases of press coverage, impeded the performance of journalists’ duties and their coverage of occupation violations in the Palestinian territories, and prevented them from working, the report pointed out, noting that the violations included physical assaults and threats.

In terms of the harassment and torture by the Israeli occupation against the detained journalists in the occupation prisons, the report recorded six cases, where some were subjected to medical negligence that necessitated their transfer to hospitals.

The occupation continues to practice various forms of harassment on the Palestinians in various occupied territories, amidst complete international silence.
