Kalimat highlights reading sessions at Sharjah International Book Fair 2012

SHARJAH: Sharjah-based Kalimat Publishing House, the award-winning publisher of quality Arabic children’s books, is continuing with its drive to spread a love of reading of Arabic language and literature among children by offering book readings of popular titles at this year’s Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), which is taking place at the Expo Centre Sharjah from 7-17 November 2012.

The publishing house’s line-up of events include a number of book reading and signing sessions, the first session, which took place on 8th November, featured Rania Zbib Daher’s Hal Toughlaq Abwab Al Hadiqa? (Will the park gates be closed?). The award-winning author was also available the following evening at 6pm to sign her popular range of children’s books.

The reading for Salha Ghabish’s Rihlat Dana (Dana’s trip) on the morning of November 11 will include a session on making necklaces by Hayet Zerelli for little girls as the book is about the journey of a pearl from the land to the sea. There will be readings of Kifah Bu Ali’s Ouhibou Alami (I love my world) written from the perspective of a boy with a hearing disability and Maitha Al Khayyat’s Emirati book Hina Yashtahi Al Jamalou Al Lougaymat (When the camel craves dumplings) will take place at 11am on 12th and 13th November, respectively.

The SIBF, organised annually by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, is an internationally recognized event and a highlight on Sharjah’s calendar. Each year, more than 750 publishers from 42 nations welcome on average 400,000 visitors to the event, which aims to create an interest in reading among people, especially the younger generation, and to make quality books available at affordable prices.

Kalimat is the first publishing house in the UAE dedicated solely to publishing and distributing high quality Arabic books for children aged 0 to 16 years. With over a hundred publications to its credit since inception five years ago, Kalimat focuses on producing books that the children of the UAE and the region can relate to, with vibrant illustrations and stories that talk about the value of family, relationships, simplicity, and happiness.
