Lubna Al Qasimi discusses partnership opportunities with Global Environment Facility

ABU DHABI, 8th October, 2015 (WAM) — Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, MICAD, and Head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, has said that the renewable energy sector is a development priority in the UAE’s foreign aid policy.
Sheikha Lubna said that the UAE seeks to support renewable energy projects in a number of developing countries in order to increase their ability to access energy, thus supporting the efforts of these countries and communities towards achieving sustainable development.
During a meeting between Sheikh Lubna and Naoko Ishii, Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility, GEF, prospects of joint work between the UAE and GEF were reviewed along with highlighting mutual interests in launching development projects that contribute to the service of humanity and achieve the sustainable development goals.
Sheikha Lubna said that the UAE is keen on its partnership with GEF, a major participant that will contribute to the support of foreign aid, given its active role in various development sectors, especially in the field of renewable energy.
Ishii praised the contributions of the UAE’s wise leadership and its active role in international development, which is consistent with the successes achieved by the state in terms of internal development and elevating the UAE’s status on the regional and international level.
Naoko Ishii and her accompanying delegation are currently visiting the UAE to participate in the Eye on Earth 2015 summit, being held in Abu Dhabi until 8th October with the participation of international stakeholders involved in sustainability issues.
