Mahmoud Othman confirms that the US withdrawal from Syria will affect Iraq negatively

BAGHDAD- Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman said that the US military withdrawal from Syria would affect Iraq negatively.

In a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), Othman described the US President Donald Trump as unbalanced because he recently made negative decisions affecting Iraq in particular and the region in general, including the recent decision to withdraw US troops stationed in Syria and heading to Iraq.

He added: “The majority of the Iraqi people and parties are with the US military withdrawal from Iraq and refuse US bases to be in Iraq to strike Daesh or other parties, and thus the US military presence in Iraq will contribute to internal developments that form a negative factor on the security and political situation in the country.

“The internal understandings among parties and political blocs can put pressure on the Americans to end the US military presence in Iraq, although US President Trump does not care about anyone when making decisions,” Othman said.

The US President earlier decided to withdraw US troops from Syria and visited US forces at the Ain al-Assad base in Anbar last week without meeting Iraqi officials or informing them of the visit.
