Nahyan to inaugurate International Dental Conference in Abu Dhabi on Thursday

Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research , will inaugurate the 2nd IDCAN (International Conference of Al Noor Hospital) on 27 September at Sheraton Hotel Abu Dhabi in collaboration with New York University – College of dentistry, USA .

It is a two days conference and is expected to host more than 300 dentists and technicians in the disciplines of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery from various healthcare and dental facilities from UAE, KSA, Egypt, India and Pakistan.

The opening ceremony of the Conference will host a number of officials from the Ministry of health, the Health Authority Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi health services company (SEHA) and a number of hospital managers and various health facilities. The opening ceremony will include the address of Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan followed by the welcoming address of Dr. Kassem Alom, CEO of Al Noor Hospitals Group and the Conference President; followed by the inauguration of the dental exhibition held on the sidelines of the Conference that hosts many specialized companies in the field of dental instruments, equipment and accessories offering the latest innovation in the field of dentistry.

Dr. Kassem Alom, CEO of Al Noor Hospitals Group in Abu Dhabi commended on the evolution of dental services in various healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi Emirate, adding that most health facilities are seeking to develop and improve the level of services provided to patients and clients along with the focus on dental subspecialties.

He emphasised that since the last year, the Group administration decided to regularly hold an annual conference about dentistry for serious engagement in reducing the problems of oral and dental diseases through the successful international experiences. The aim was to invite high-caliber experts to present the latest in the dental field taking into account the focus on preventive aspects; in line with the policy of the health authority Abu Dhabi who focuses on the preventive side in reducing many of the health problems that can be avoided.

Dr. Alom said that Al Noor Hospital had pioneered the private sector in continuing medical education programs since more than 25 years and continually encourages its medical and technical staff to attend continuing education programs periodically for its role in refining the experience and knowledge development to benefit patients.

He added that the Organising Committee of the Conference is hosting five global speakers from New York University – College of Dentistry who specialize in dental and gum diseases and oral and implant surgeries. The conference, topics on dental decay, orthodontics and pediatric dentistry and others will be discussed due to the proliferation of these health problems in the community.

Dr. Alom noted that over two days there will be 7 scientific sessions, which will discuss and review 14 scientific papers and research focusing on dental prostheses and dental implants and the most appropriate methods for the most recent non-harming drilling system for implant placement and compatibility with the quality of the bone available. Also lectures will discuss cases of neonatal anomalies, the children dental disorders and the most appropriate treatment methods of cleft lip and palate and other important topics.

Dr. Aman El-Duweini, the Director of the IDCAN Conference who holds the American Dental Board certification and works at Al Noor Hospital said that the goals of the Conference is to understand the importance of developing the best multi-discipline treatment plan to reach best results documented in clinical dentistry . And to learn about dental diseases, risk factors and expected factors that contribute in worsening of the disease which is called prognosis of dental diseases. A special emphasis will also be given to diagnosis and treatment of surgical cases of maxillofacial plastic surgery.

Participants will be awarded 13.5 CME hours accredited by the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi.
