QCC verifies readings of fuel meters at Abu Dhabi’s petrol stations

ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, QCC, is now verifying readings of fuel pump meters at service stations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This verification process is conducted using volumetric standards that bear certificates of calibration from internationally recognised entities. This aims to ensure the accuracy of the amount of fuel the stations put in customers’ vehicles. There will also be the post-maintenance re-checking service. This initiative is one of the steps taken by QCC to enhance confidence in Abu Dhabi’s markets through the legal metrology services it provides.

QCC has put in place a daily action plan that began last November. 37 service stations out of almost 70 ADNOC service stations in Abu Dhabi have been covered, and 13 service stations out of 41 in Al Ain. Abu Dhabi’s Western Region, Al Gharbia, service stations are to be covered during the first quarter of this year.

“Meters used in gas stations are of commercial use. Therefore, it is important to make sure the readings are accurate in order to ensure consumers’ confidence in the Emirates market. It is also a good way to raise consumers’ awareness of their rights. These kind of services also come as part of QCC programs that aim to promote confidence in the existence of fair trade and safe products markets,” said Abdulla Al-Khoori, Acting Executive Director for Consumers and Market Services Sector.

“QCC has designated vehicles that are specially equipped for this task. They contain all public and individual fireproof safety equipment in accordance with the highest international standards. QCC is also abiding by the necessary standards to successfully implement this service as the process is manned by a cadre of highly efficient and competent inspectors.

“According to the plan, all gas stations in the emirate will be verified by the end of April 2014, and since this service is periodic, an annual re-checking of all fuel meters in the emirate will take place” added Al-Khoori.

QCC inspects the accuracy of all measuring scales used in general retails such as gold and oud essence stores as well as retail shops. It also verifies the accuracy of weigh-bridges used in the measurement of heavy vehicles.
