Rouhani: If Europe does not fulfill its commitments, we will implement the third phase of reducing our nuclear obligations

BAGHDAD Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that if Europe does not fulfill its commitments, Tehran will implement the third phase of reducing its commitments in the nuclear deal.

During a telephone call on Saturday evening, Iranian media reported that Paris’s efforts to maintain the nuclear agreement were “serious” and that Zarif’s visit to France was of great importance to both public and political opinion in the region and the world.

He pointed out that Iranian approach is to maintain the nuclear agreement and make continuous efforts in this path, the implementation of the obligations of the parties to the nuclear agreement and the provision of free navigation in all waterways are the two main objectives in the ongoing negotiations.

Rouhani noted that the non-compliance with the nuclear agreement and the US unilateral withdrawal from the agreement raised many problems in the relations between Iran and other countries, while regretting that the European countries, after the US unilateral withdrawal from the agreement, did not take any practical step in the course of implementation Pledges. “

He stressed that the elimination of all forms of embargo on Iran paves the way for future negotiations, stressing that if Europe cannot meet its obligations, Iran will implement the third phase of reducing its commitments in the nuclear agreement, and it is obvious that this step, like other stages, can be reversed.

For his part, Macron called the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to the country a positive one, stressing the Islamic Republic’s keenness to safeguard Iranian interests and its commitment to the principle of negotiation.

He pointed out that “Iranian and French experts have achieved good results in terms of finding solutions to the existing problems, and a meeting of economic experts from both countries will be held in Paris this week, expressing confidence in finding solutions to the outstanding problems through negotiations, returned this matter the right decision, stressing at the same time to continue this approach until reaching the appropriate results.

He described the collapse of the nuclear deal as a source of exhilaration for many extremists at the international level, stressing the search for a way to ensure mutual interests. “In this context, France is seeking to find solutions to the political and economic problems in relations with Iran and reduce tension in the region.”
