Russian delegation discusses in Tehran the launch of the Syrian Constitutional Commission

BAGHDAD The Russian delegation headed by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavryntev, and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Verchinen discussed the launch of the Syrian constitutional committee in Tehran, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

“The functions of the rapid formation and the launch of the Syrian Constitutional Committee were discussed in Geneva, and the preparations for the next tripartite summit were considered in Astana,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The exchange of views on a range of issues related to the development of the situation in Syria and the Middle East.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that the Russian president’s special envoy to Syria and the Russian deputy foreign minister had held consultations with Turkish representatives led by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sadat Onal.

The foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey and Iran held a meeting in Geneva on December 18, with the participation of UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, to discuss the political settlement of the Syrian crisis, focusing on the formation of the constitutional committee. Efforts to hold the first session of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva earlier this year. ”
