Sharjah International Book Fair promoted at Bologna Children’s Book Fair

SHARJAH: A delegation from Sharjah International Book Fair is in Italy holding meetings with specialists in children’s books at the Bologna fair, as part of its international promotion and publicity for the Sharjah International Book Fair 2014. The Bologna Children’s Book Fair – one of the most important international events dedicated to the children’s publishing and multimedia industry, is taking place from March 24th-27th in Italy.

The Sharjah delegation includes Ahmed Al Ameri, Director of SIBF, Salim Omar Salim, Head of Sales and Marketing at SIBF, Hind Lenaid, Head of Exhibitions at SIBF and General Coordinator of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF), and Mohan Kumar, External Affairs Executive at SIBF.

With the main aim of attracting participants for the 2014 event in Sharjah, the SIBF Director has secured a number of meetings with specialists in children’s books at the Bologna fair, during which he will discuss what the Sharjah exhibition has to offer. Once again this year the attractions include a Children’s Reading Festival similar to that at Bologna. It is now bigger than ever with almost 30 children’s authors and illustrators travelling to Sharjah. Al Ameri will also highlight opportunities to participate in the Professional Programme preceding the fair.

Speaking of SIBF’s goals for Bologna, Ahmed Al Ameri, Director of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), said, “As the world’s premier children’s literature and books platform, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair provides significant opportunities for us to network and engage with international stakeholders in the children’s publishing industry and we intend to leverage those opportunities to attract new exhibitors to both the upcoming Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival and SIBF later this year. We are especially eager to broaden the scope of both of these events this year.

We have already received overwhelming interest from organisations wanting to discuss potential participation and are looking forward to the biggest editions of both SCRF and SIBF to date.” Last year, a record 1200 exhibitors from 66 countries and 5,000 international professional trade representatives attended The Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary. This year’s Fair is expected to bring together even more publishers, authors, illustrators, literary agents, distributors, printers, booksellers and service companies connected to publishing.
