Sharjah Ruler in surprise visit to Al-Qassimi Hospital

SHARJAH: H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, in a surprise visit, inspected the Cardiac Catheterization Unit (Cath Lab) of Al-Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah.

Sheikh Sultan viewed the state-of-art devices which were recently introduced to the hospital by the Friends of the Patients Committee. Among these is a new device that prevents strokes by treating a common heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

Accompanied by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Medical Zone and Chairman of the Friends of the Patients Committee, Sheikh Sultan met with the heart surgeons and was briefed on the new device.

Dr Arif al Nooryani, the chief executive of Al Qassimi Hospital, in press statements, announced the success of the first operation at the hospital on patients with AF using the new device which he said as the first in the Gulf region and described a breakthrough in the treatment of heart disease. The duration of the operation using the device is decreased from 4-5 hours to just one and half hours. The device which has been developed over 15 years, he noted, enables patients to stop anti-clotting medications.
