Sheikh Hamdan attends 5th Dubai Mass Wedding

DUBAI: Dubai’s Zabeel Park was lit up and glittered with illuminated palm trees and bushes accompanied by breathtaking fireworks and a range of traditional art performances on the occasion of the 5th Dubai Mass Wedding, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, U.A.E. Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality, DM.

The ceremony, organised by the Dubai Municipality, was attended by, among others, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Dubai civic body and a number of senior officials from four government entities.

Lootah said that the initiative has helped hundreds of Emiratis since its inception and, as a unique social initiative of the U.A.E., it has been helping young Emiratis build their family with financial stability by covering the costs of a wedding ceremony and providing a happy interactive social occasion.

A total of 50 couples from DM, DEWA, DIACA and DHA participated in the wedding ceremony along with their families and work colleagues, and they extended their sincere gratitude to Sheikh Hamdan for his constant help and support to young Emiratis; helping to fulfil their dream of starting family life without sinking into huge debts that prevent many from taking up married life or delay marriage for an unknown period.

The organisation of the joint mass wedding comes in line with the vision of the late President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the directives of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on the rationalisation of wedding expenses, with the aim of avoiding extravagance that burdens families in the early stages of their lives.
