Somali Army Announces Killing 60 Al Shabaab Militants South of Mogadishu

The Somali army announced today the elimination of more than 60 Al Shabaab militants in a military operation in the city of Aw-Dheegle, south of the capital, Mogadishu.

The Somali National News Agency stated that the armed forces thwarted an attempted ambush on a military base in the Lower Shabelle region.

For more than a decade, the Somali army has been battling against the Al Shabaab group, a group that is responsibe for numerous attacks that claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians and security personnel. However, in the last few months, the Somali army has been successful in regaining several areas in the country’s central regions.
