UAE a global leader in defence exhibitions, says Al-Balushi

ABU DHABI, Major General Staff Pilot Ishaq Saleh Al-Balushi, Head of the Executive Directorate of Industries and Development of Defence Capabilities at the Ministry of Defence, has said that the UAE is a global leader in hosting defence exhibitions through the organisation of UMEX, IDEX and Dubai Airshow, which are considered the biggest specialised defence exhibitions on an international scale.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Al-Balushi said, “The UAE has transformed defence exhibitions into an industry in itself, which contributes to supporting the industrial and commercial sectors. This is reflected in the participation and growth of the UMEX and SimTEX exhibitions in each cycle.

“The UAE decided to keep up with the fourth industrial revolution on the level of all its government institutions, including the military institution represented in the Ministry of Defence and the General Command of the Armed Forces, which took it upon itself to employ the outputs of the fourth industrial revolution and employ them to serve and develop the military institution’s work.”

He noted that since the UAE began developing its defence industry 20 years ago, its biggest success has been developing national expertise through cooperation and partnership with education institutions. This resulted in high-quality expertise for the local defence industries, which formed the nucleus of the sector’s future locally.

Al-Balushi said that the adoption of artificial intelligence in the military is considered one of the most important features in the institution’s endeavour to keep up with the fourth industrial revolution, as per the directives of the wise leadership.

He noted that the great demand from international companies for both exhibitions reflects the trust in the UAE’s ability to host the most prominent international exhibitions and make them a success with their advanced infrastructure and high security.

The education sector in the country is considered an important asset for the defence sector as a large number of local companies participating in the exhibition have succeeded in attracting Emirati graduates, Al-Balushi continued, adding that this has created a kind of balance between national staff and foreign experts creating an environment for the exchange of expertise.
