UAE aims to intensify charitable, humanitarian spending, giving: Hamdan bin Zayed

ABU DHABI, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, stated that the ERC is promoting the UAE’s humanitarian efforts, under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In a statement marking the 35th anniversary of the ERC’s establishment, Sheikh Hamdan asserted that the UAE has aimed, since its establishment, to increase its spending and giving for the underprivileged and develop its humanitarian initiatives, which have contributed to the social development of fragile communities and marginalised areas.

“The founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, established the foundations of the country’s humanitarian civilisation, which is a source of pride and honour for every citizen, and set the role model of rescuing those in distress and providing relief for the aggrieved. The wise leadership walks on the same path as our dearly departed, and continues his journey of goodness and giving to its farthest reaches,” he added.

Sheikh Hamdan stressed that during the past 35 years, the ERC has taken its responsibility to deliver the UAE’s message of love and peace to the people of the world who are suffering from their circumstances, through its global programmes and projects without discrimination, and their humanitarian needs were, and will remain, the only criteria to answer their calls and offer the required assistance.

“The ERC, whose anniversary is happening today, has achieved success in providing relief aid and has progressed from only providing practical assistance in times of crises and disasters to leading developmental projects, which has helped vulnerable communities,” Sheikh Hamdan added while stressing that the ERC foresees a new stage of spending and strengthening its charitable efforts, to achieve its hopes and aspirations to limit human suffering and safeguard human dignity.

He also pointed out that the ERC, through its international programmes and projects, represents the country’s strategy and comprehensive plans to support humanitarian causes.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed the desire to combine the efforts of international charity organisations to face humanitarian challenges caused by the increasing number of conflicts, disasters and crises while working together to decrease their effects on victims and those aggrieved. He also called on them to counter the repercussions of the worsening humanitarian suffering caused by the spread of poverty, hunger, diseases and epidemics, as well as greater displacement, migration, homelessness and deprivation.

He further stressed that the current humanitarian conditions in many areas require strong action from the international community, to achieve wider solidarity and support victims.

“Everyone, including governments, organisations and individuals, must play their role in the best possible way, because it is our joint responsibility to safeguard humanity’s dignity,” he affirmed while stressing that the ERC is a leading supporter of the International Red Crescent and Red Cross Movement and other charitable institutions that are working for a better future for regional and international humanitarian work.
