UAE carries Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey

Abu Dhabi: The UAE is currently conducting, in partnership of UNICEF, the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS). The MICS is being adopted by H.H Sheikha Fatima bint Mubrak, Chairperson of the UAE General Women’s Union (GWU) and of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, as part of her commitment to advance role of family and woman in local community.

UNICEF assists countries in collecting and analyzing data in order to fill data gaps for monitoring the situation of children and women through its international household survey initiative: the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS).

The MICS will enable the UAE to produce updated statistically sound and internationally comparable estimates of a range of indicators in health, education, and social areas.

MICS findings have been used extensively as a basis for policy decisions and programme interventions, and for the purpose of influencing public opinion on the situation of children and women around the world. MICS data will allow the UAE to better monitor progress toward national goals and global commitments, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, welcomed Sheikha Fatima’s vital initiative, affirming the Foreign Ministry would put its resources at the GWU’s disposal to enable the national project deliver its aspired goals.

”The UAE woman is enjoying and practicing all her rights and effectively contributing to all walks of life and development, surpassing her peers in other countries thanks to the consistent support and guidance by Sheikha Fatima,” the minister noted.
