UAE participates in developing UN post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals

ABU DHABI: The U.A.E. has participated in the 9th session of the Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for post 2015, held recently at UN headquarters in New York.

Assistant Under-Secretary in the Ministry of International Cooperation and Development, Najla Al Kaabi, led the Ministry delegation, which was part of the U.A.E. mission. The three-day session discussed 19 different areas which will form the basis of the SDGs.

Ms. Al Kaabi held bilateral meetings with a number of international officials, where means of cooperation to support international development, partnerships with various global actors, and U.A.E. achievements in realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were discussed.

She also held a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Wu Hongbo, and addressed ways of cooperation between MICAD and the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

Mr. Hongbo commented the U.A.E.’s role and achievements in international development and its active and effective contributions in global humanitarian and development forums.

Ms. Al Kaabi also met with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Ms. Kang Kyung-wha, Chief of the Regional Programme Division in the Regional Bureau for Arab States of UNDP, Adel Abdellatif, UNRWA Representative Office Director, Mr. Richard Wright, and the World Food Program (WFP) Partnership Division Director, Thomas Yanha.
