UAE to take part in 130th IPU’s General Assembly and related meetings

DUBAI: Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC) will lead the U.A.E. parliamentary division delegation to the 130th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 194th Session of the Governing Council which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 12th to 20th March. The agenda of the General Assembly covers: election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the 130th Assembly; consideration of requests for the inclusion of an emergency item in the Assembly agenda; general debate on the IPU at 125th anniversary; renewing commitment to peace and democracy; towards a nuclear-weapon-free world; the contribution of parliaments (Standing Committee on Peace and International Security); towards risk-resilient development; taking into consideration demographic trends and natural constraints (Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade); the role of parliaments in protecting the rights of children, in particular unaccompanied migrant children, and in preventing their exploitation in situations of war and conflict (Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights) and the report of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs.
