Through continuous efforts to develop the national tourism sector, the UAE has strengthened its position on the global tourism map, becoming one of the most important global tourist destinations, as it came among the top 10 globally in a number of global competitiveness indicators related to the tourism, travel and hotel sector in 2021.

A quantum leap in tourism indicators

Hotel establishments in the country attracted about 6 million visitors who spent 25 million hotel nights during the first quarter of 2022, with a growth of 10% compared to the same period in 2019, i.e. more than pre-pandemic rates. 25% during the same comparison period, increasing from 3 to 4 hotel nights, and the occupancy rate of hotel establishments in the country during this period reached 80%, which is one of the highest rates in the world.

Hotel establishments achieved revenues of 11 billion dirhams during the first quarter of this year (2022), with a growth rate of 20% compared to the same period in 2019, and these establishments recorded a return to work with their full capacity of about 200,000 hotel rooms.

At the level of flights and hospitality, the number of passengers through the country’s airports reached 20 million passengers during the first quarter of 2022, compared to 8.6 million passengers registered in the same period in 2021, an increase of 135%, and the number of transit passengers out of the total travelers through the country’s airports During the first three months of this year, about 7 million passengers, an increase of 203% compared to the same period last year.

The contribution of the travel and tourism sector to the GDP has increased by 3.4% over the past 3 years to reach 15%, compared to 11.6% in 2019.

These pioneering indicators reflect the extent of the increasing confidence in the national tourism sector and the pioneering reputation achieved by the tourism environment in the country, whether at the level of domestic tourism or by international tourists and visitors. National Tourism Development Strategy

The Ministry of Economy and its partners from local tourism development authorities and departments and stakeholders in the tourism sector at the federal and local levels, in partnership with the private sector and international tourism authorities and organizations, have worked to develop an integrated national strategy for tourism development and enhance the UAE’s position as a sustainable tourism destination by focusing on future foresight, innovation and technology in the tourism sector. Among the most important features of the internal tourism strategy, which was launched in 2020, is marketing the most important natural, cultural, heritage and historical attractions in the country, developing the tourism product, highlighting the beauty and privacy of the tourism experience in each emirate of the country, and promoting recreational, cultural and community activities, in a way that enhances attractiveness. tourism specific to each emirate.

The most beautiful winter in the world campaign

In addition, tourism initiatives and programs are a major part of the implementation of the strategy of domestic tourism in the country. The campaign “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” launched by the Media Office of the UAE Government in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy is at the top of these initiatives, which has achieved resounding success at the level of the Emirates, becoming The largest campaign of its kind highlighting the various domestic tourism options across the Emirates. The second edition of the campaign, which started from mid-December 2021 until the end of January 2022, achieved revenues of 1.5 billion dirhams and attracted more than 1.3 million local tourists within 45 days.

The campaign contributed to shedding light on ecological and sustainable tourism, which allows visitors from different emirates to enjoy visiting natural sites such as reserves, oases, mountains, beaches and islands that celebrate biodiversity, and desert tourism that includes safaris, sand boarding, and the search for oases hidden in the depths of the deserts among giant sand dunes.
