UN official commends UAE’s humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees

AMMAN: Edward Calhoun, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, has highly valued the humanitarian initiatives launched by the U.A.E. and its relief agencies to assist Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries. At a meeting with the U.A.E. Ambassador to Jordan, Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Ameri, the UN official said that the U.A.E. humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees was much in evidence since the eruption of the crisis. He added that the U.A.E. had carried out a number of important humanitarian and relief programmes, commending its role as exemplary and urged other countries to emulate it.

The meeting discussed humanitarian projects and services UN agencies could offer to Syrian refugees.

The U.A.E. envoy said that the U.A.E. leadership pays proper attention and follows up relief programmes targeting Syrian refugees as part of its efforts to ease their suffering. The U.A.E., he added, was also helping Jordan to bear the burden of hosting thousands of refugees.
