Washington hopes to hold a new summit between Trump and North Korean President after the “New Year’s Day”

BAGHDAD, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thursday that the United States hopes to hold a second summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on New Year’s Day.

“We are still working to implement President Kim’s commitment to renounce nuclear weapons,” he said in a radio interview.

“We continue to hold meetings and hope that President Trump and President Kim will meet again on New Year’s Day so as to make further progress to remove this threat to the United States,” he said.

At the historic summit in Singapore, Kim pledged nuclear disarmament on the Korean Peninsula in full form, but without details or timetable, and commissioned Pompeo to negotiate for the US goal.

But a meeting between the US Secretary of State and North Korean negotiator Kim Jong-chol canceled by North Korea at the last minute after it was scheduled for early November in New York.
